The Making It Happen Bootcamp has started and our campers are sharing great ideas in the MIH Blog. We are all learning a lot from this experience—captains and campers are discussing a wide range of topics in the field of finance and marketing as well as technology integration in the classroom. Discussion Guidelines (Synchronous and Asynchronous) Your active participation in during discussion is essential to your overall success this bootcamp. Discussion questions are designed to help you make meaningful connections between the course content and the larger concepts and goals of the bootcamp. These discussions offer you the opportunity to express your own thoughts, ask questions for clarification, and gain insight from your classmates’ responses and facilitators’ guidance. Requirements for Discussion Board Assignments Campers are required to post one (1) initial post and to follow up with at least two (2) response posts for each discussion board assignment. For your initial post (1), you must do the following: Compose a post of one to two paragraphs. Complete the initial post by Thursday at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time of the module week. Take into consideration material such as course content and other discussion boards from the current module and previous modules, when appropriate. Reference scholarly or peer-reviewed sources to support your discussion points, as appropriate (using proper citation methods for your discipline). HP’s LIFE e-Learning online training program for entrepreneurs is free for anyone to use and will be the basis of the CTL’s Making It Happen: Entrepreneurship & Education Bootcamp. It focuses on real-life business and technology skills to start or grow businesses or integrate entrepreneurship lessons into your educational program. The courses are interactive, self-paced, and full of practical exercises. Campers will receive a special login link to receive credit. In other words, you can’t do work before the camp starts! 🙂 If you complete all of the modules in a topic, you will receive a HP certificate. However, to receive credit in the Bootcamp you only need to complete 1 module in each topic, in addition to the assignments. Assignments include completing a Pre-Camp and Post-Camp survey, a weekly reflection (blog) post, participation in a weekly 1 hour meeting, and completion of a lesson plan (template will be provided). Faculty: Athens Tech Foundation student scholarships are now more accessible and user-friendly with the new online system AWARDSPRING. The deadline to apply for fall scholarships is July 26, 2015. Students can apply online at https://athenstechfoundation.awardspring.com if they attended Athens Technical College Spring Semester 2015. Currently attending students which did NOT attend last semester must first register at https://athenstechfoundation.awardspring.com/prospective/register AWARDSPRING determines eligibility, matching students with any and all available scholarships appropriate for them. Paper scholarship applications will no longer be accepted.

Dr. Powell Program Chair for Engineering Technology, Photograph by Don Nelson, 2014 Engineer Tremaine Powell foresees an exciting future for the new Engineering Technology program at Athens Technical College and for the business community it serves. “I think that we will be able to fill much-needed engineering tech positions in local and statewide industry,” said Dr. Powell, who began work as program chair for Engineering Technology in January 2013. “I hope that outside industry will see that we have a competent and skilled engineering technology workforce coming out of the program, and that they will want to move or expand to the local area, knowing that they will be able to obtain the personnel they need to make their business succeed.” Dr. Powell’s optimism and several other factors prompted him to join the college to direct the new Engineering Technology program that kicked off in the fall.
