The Center for Teaching & Learning of Athens Technical College is pleased to announce that they are the recipient of a New Media Consortium (NMC)  HP LIFE E-Learning mini-grant. This grant will be used to facilitate the Fall 2015 CTL Professional Development Program Series: Making it Happen: Entrepreneurship & Education Bootcamp, which will be open to Athens Technical College teaching faculty via an application process. Participants in this Bootcamp will use technology to engage with content in the HP LIFE e-learning series for entrepreneurs,  which focuses on entrepreneurship, business, and IT skills.  Campers will participate in weekly meetings to discuss topics and brainstorm ideas such as how higher education can incorporate ideas from startups and maker culture.  A weekly blog post will encapsulate discussion and provide opportunities for reflection and collaboration.  Participants will complete a brief pre-camp survey and post-camp survey, a potential lesson plan and participate in weekly meetings.  A group blog will be publicly available and also used to communicate information and other resources related to the program. Dr. Powell Program Chair for Engineering Technology, Photograph by Don Nelson, 2014 Engineer Tremaine Powell foresees an exciting future for the new Engineering Technology program at Athens Technical College and for the business community it serves. “I think that we will be able to fill much-needed engineering tech positions in local and statewide industry,” said Dr. Powell, who began work as program chair for Engineering Technology in January 2013.  “I hope that outside industry will see that we have a competent and skilled engineering technology workforce coming out of the program, and that they will want to move or expand to the local area, knowing that they will be able to obtain the personnel they need to make their business succeed.” Dr. Powell’s optimism and several other factors prompted him to join the college to direct the new Engineering Technology program that kicked off in the fall.
