What are ePortfolios? ePortfolios are a collection of work demonstrating achievement or improvement (Rick Stiggins, 1994) with a story (narrative). This collection of artifacts demonstrates effort, progress and achievement. Within an educational setting a portfolio can be prepared in the context of a course, a program, or an institution; the author of the portfolio can be the student, a faculty member, an administrator, or an organization (depart, program, etc.); and the purpose of the portfolio may be developmental, evaluative, and/or representative. The QEP is a student-centered learning initiative and part of ATC’s reaffirmation of accreditation process established by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), our regional accrediting organization. “Designation as an accredited college assures students access to federal aid and demonstrates that the college meets or exceeds required quality standards for teaching and learning,” said Dr. Mary Clare DiGiacomo, Director of the Center for Teaching & Learning. Athens Technical College was first accredited by SACSCOC in 1988. “The QEP is a new part of the accreditation process for the college, Dr. DiGiacomo said. “It gives our college an opportunity to look at our institution, look for areas around student learning that need to be improved, and then focus on a specific area and develop a plan to address that area of student learning and/or the learning environment,” she said. Already a QEP topic selection team representing faculty, staff and students from all the college’s divisions, has been reviewing institutional data and reports to determine what can be done to improve learning…
